Antioxidant Answers

With all of the diets, buzz words and advice, it’s no wonder people are confused with how to achieve their optimal wellbeing. When understanding health, sometimes you just have to keep it simple. So just as important as calories in to calories out, in weight loss; what we put into our bodies is just as vital.

A number of things, ranging from environmental factors to smoking and of course the food we eat, are all making us more and more unhealthy. All of these things contain harmful free radicals that can cause everything from cancer, cardiovascular disease, to just plain old aging.

So, what are free radicals?

To put it simply, free radicals are unstable molecules in our body, either naturally occurring through things like digestion and metabolism or by poor lifestyle choices. The molecules are considered unstable because they have an uneven amount of electrons. In order to rectify this, they steal one from a healthy molecule; in turn making that molecule unstable and creating a chain reaction of electron stealing free radicals.

So what is the antidote? Antioxidants. You’ve probably heard that term before so let me explain what they are. Antioxidants are something found in certain foods and drinks that can repair and prevent cell damage. They actually take the free radicals and make them harmless. Therefore slowing down and sometimes even reversing the harm created by them.

Next, we’ll talk about some foods or drinks that you can include in your diet that are rich in antioxidants.
